Description
La Vieille Gorce is a beautiful mid-18th century farmhouse located in the Vienne region of south west France in the department of Poitou-Charentes. In the main farmhouse there are three boutique chambres, each with an en-suite, and a shared salon with tv and fridge to keep the all important wine cool in the summer heat. Adjacent to the farmhouse are two beautifully restored and spacous gites, each with a private terrace, overlooking the heated pool. The countryside surrounding the property is organically farmed and a haven for a wide variety of wildlife. The property is located only 5kms from the historically renowned town of Charroux with its famous Charlamagne's Tower, popular with pilgrims travelling to Compestella de Santiago. Here you will find a variety of shops, bars, two banks, a tourist information office, post office, two boulangeries, restaurants and cafes. The area has an abundance of chateaux, picturesque towns and villages, stunning rivers, forests, endless miles of walking, horse riding and cycle tracks and lots to do for all ages.

Hey, I'm Sarah

Paul and I were both born and raised in the UK. We met at Durham University and after graduating we decided to live in Durham and both embarked on our very different careers. Paul worked in community and social care sector and I became an archaeologist. As our life's journey progressed we were ready for a new adventure and decided to emmigrate to Christchurch, New Zealand in 2006.  Here we had a wonderful and exciting time exploring this awe inspiring country and diverse culture. Sadly our time in this amazing country was interrupted by the devastating earthquakes in 2011 and after spending the next five years rebuilding our home, we decided it was time to return to the northern hemisphere. We both needed to be closer to family and felt a new adventure was on the horizon. We were thrilled and excited to find this beautiful farmhouse, it seemed to be waiting for us to bring it back to life and we instantly felt at home the moment we walked through the door. After six months of very hard work, cleaning, repairing, painting, decorating, installing the pool and landscaping the grounds, we finally opened the doors in June 2017.
We are both wholeheartedly loving our new lifestyle in this idyllic part of the world, we have firmly settled  in France and happy to have been warmly welcomed by the local community. Our underlying philosophy is 'our place is your place' . If you are a more independent traveller, our self contained gites are for you.  If you prefer more personal hospitality then we welcome you as a B and B guest and to share our home.  Whether you are a family, a couple, friends or a solo traveller you are warmly welcomed at our place. Having lived in the UK, New Zealand and France and travelled in many countries around the world  it is our pleasure to offer our own unique hospitality in this wonderful and rewarding part of France.
